Description:

Computer Applications is a course designed to teach students how to use the computer as a business and personal tool through the use of Microsoft Office 2016. Microsoft Office 2016 is an Applications Suite that contains applications for Word Processing, Database Management, Presentation, and Spreadsheets.  Students will be working to earn certification in all of the applications. In addition, students will learn how to create professional business documents using Microsoft Office

Digital e-learning tutorials (videos)

GMetrix (tutorial software)


Grading:

Students are graded by Formal and Informal Evaluations

Informal:  Daily Work, Time on Task, Class Participation, Preparedness, Employability Skills

         Formal:    Certification tests


Binders:

Binders are NOT a requirement for class.  However, it is nice to keep their certificates and any loose paperwork that turns up during the year.



Classroom Conduct:

  • Come to class prepared.  Textbook, pencil, pen, and binder everyday!

  • Be in your seat, logged in and ready to go when the bell rings.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

  • Follow the Golden Rule at all times.

  • Absolutely no food or drink allowed in the computer lab or classroom.  NOTE:  water is allowed.

  • All passes must be signed before you come to class.

  • Each student will receive two passes per semester, use them wisely.

  • Teacher dismisses the class.


Attendance Policy:

  • If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the make-up work.  Two days for every day absent will be allowed for make up work (school policy).

  • Two tardies will equal a detention (school policy).


Grading Policy:

  • You will be graded on participation, homework, quizzes and tests.  

  • All work must be neat and written in either pencil or blue/black ink.  Any other writing utensil will result in a zero for that assignment.

  • Due dates are set for all assignments.  Choosing to not meet these due dates will result in a loss of grade.  Lesson Plans and Powerschool will have due dates posted.

WEEK 1:

Digital Literacy:

Complete Digital Literacy from this Website.

We will complete Digital Literacy Standard Curriculum Version 4

There will be a certificate printed at the end of the program



WEEK 2:

Pretest on Microsoft PowerPoint


********From this point forward, the students will be moving in individual directions.  

1) If you pass the test, you will move on to another application.  

2) If you don’t pass (Which is normal and ok!!!) :-), you will choose a method of study to study and prepare to take the certification test.

WEEK 3-26

The goal for the class is to get certified in all four applications.  If a student gets certified in all areas, they are encouraged to go for Master Certification.
